Skilled Geothermal System Installers Near You

Installing a geothermal heating and cooling system in your central Illinois home may seem overwhelming compared to the relative ease of replacing your traditional HVAC equipment.

However, the expert team at Hoveln is here to help you navigate the process. We specialize in geothermal energy systems!

After all, a part of the geothermal process entails digging in your backyard and installing a geothermal loop field. Installing a geothermal heating and cooling system takes considerably more planning and time. On average, it takes 3-6 months from the initial site visit to the system being operational.

What to Expect During the Geothermal Estimate Process

  1. The first step of the process is having one of our comfort advisors out for an on-site visit. They will determine the size of the system your Urbana, IL, home needs, which is done by using a Manual J-based software. We will need to know the size of the home, the type of insulation you have, windows, doors, and the temperature you are most comfortable at.
  2. Your Hoveln comfort advisor will also evaluate your current system’s ductwork to ensure there is enough supply and return ductwork to heat and cool your space properly. Lastly, we will ensure enough electrical power is available for the system to work.
  3. We will then present you with the options that would work best for your home and other available upgrades and options.

After you have made a decision, we will have the loop drilling company inspect your property and apply for all the necessary permits. Once the permits are approved, we can start work!

Geothermal Loop Installation Process

Loop installation requires excavation, which can sometimes be tricky depending on where you live and the size of your yard. Vertical loops do not take up as much space as horizontal loops do, but some yards are still too small. Several local and state codes might affect the installation—you can find them in the geothermal FAQ section.

After installation, we will ensure every part of the system works at peak efficiency. We will also take you on a visual tour of your new heating and cooling unit and explain thermostat use, air filter changes, and other maintenance tasks.

Geothermal heating and cooling systems are more expensive to install than conventional HVAC systems but use significantly less energy when operating. The cost of a geothermal system varies widely depending on several factors, including the size of your home, the type of system, and the specifics of the installation.

The initial investment includes the cost of drilling and installing the underground loop system, which is the most significant expense. However, geothermal systems’ efficiency, durability, and environmental benefits make them a worthwhile investment for those looking to reduce their carbon footprint and lower utility costs over time.

Geothermal Heat Pump Federal Tax Credit

While the upfront cost of a geothermal cooling and heating system is higher compared to traditional HVAC systems, it is offset by lower energy bills—up to 72 percent—and federal tax credits or rebates. Installing a geothermal heating and cooling system qualifies for a 30 percent credit on your federal income taxes through 2032. Check ENERGY STAR® for more information.

“Brant was super professional very knowledgeable about our system. After diagnosis of the problem, was very transparent about our options for the repair. Very prompt for the appointment and quotes for repair. Would recommend Hoveln for heating and cooling needs.”
- Ed Z.

“As Hoveln customers since 2003, we’ve been very happy with their service and communication. The technicians always call with an ETA, and the company calls to schedule the yearly service (one less thing to remember!). When we’ve had to call for service (only twice all these years) they have gotten us on the books quickly.

Hoveln recently replaced our whole system, and we had no complaints from sales through installation. The install team that came was respectful of the property, used shoe covers/floor cloths along the whole path, and cleaned up when they were done. They also called a few days later to see if there were any issues!”

- Bob M.

“We recently purchased a 20-year-old home with an aging geothermal system that needed replacement. Timing was critical to ensure the new system was installed shortly after closing, especially with the busy Thanksgiving week and the approaching deadline for the 2024 federal tax credits. Hoveln Heating & Cooling exceeded all expectations.

From our initial contact through the final decision, the process moved remarkably quickly. Despite the busy season with the first cold spell of the year, Brant Hoveln made time for us to visit their office, where he carefully walked us through our options. He was thorough and patient, ensuring we selected the best unit for our home.

The installation process was seamless. The technical team worked continuously, swiftly, and professionally. They left the work area spotless—without a trace of their presence—and completed the installation in just six hours. Punctual and highly skilled, they were supported by both Brant Hoveln and the owner, Jeff Hoveln, who were on-site to oversee the process.

The new geothermal system has been a game-changer. It’s incredibly quiet, maintains a perfectly comfortable climate, and operates with impressive efficiency. We had the chance to experience the old system for one night, and the difference with the new unit is remarkable.

Customer service has been excellent. The team is highly responsive by both email and phone, ensuring all our questions and concerns were addressed promptly.

Overall, we couldn’t be more satisfied with Hoveln Heating & Cooling. Their professionalism, responsiveness, and expertise make them a company we would confidently recommend to others.”

- Jeff M.

“Our Water Furnace unit had stopped blowing cool air. We contacted Hoveln on a Wednesday morning, and a technician came out that afternoon. His diagnostics showed a failed compressor, which he said was very rare but they would order a replacement. A compressor is an expensive part. Hoveln then sent out another technician on Friday to confirm the diagnosis. After considerable testing and consultation with the manufacturer, it was determined that the problem was not the compressor, but a controller for the compressor. That controller had a history of failures, and Hoveln replaced it under warranty. Even though the warranty had expired. We were only charged for one service call. Needless to say, we are very happy with the way Hoveln handled this problem.
We have been Hoveln customers for many years, and plan to remain so for many more.”

- Gary G.

“Hoveln again did a wonderful job. We had issues during the holiday season and they responded quickly to us and worked hard to diagnose the issue. Jeff, Sheri, Chris and Brant did a great job communicating and constantly followed up with us to be sure the problem was resolved. They are always fair, honest, and courteous.”

- Amy J.

“The team from Hoveln did a difficult, two-day installation of a replacement geothermal unit, which has performed splendidly. I couldn't be happier with the service and the product.”

- Elizabeth S.

“We have been customers of Hoveln Heating and Cooling since 2008. Could not be more pleased with their professionalism and service. Our technician is Brant and he does an outstanding job and is very friendly and courteous.”

- Jill D.
